We often hear stories that quiet teenagers playing video games aren't exactly who they seem, and now we've been given several pages of proof.

The Internet is a breeding ground for fan theories, and some of them are quite entertaining. But one speculation is particularly disturbing: Scott Pilgrim, the hero of the graphic novel series and the movie, is actually a murderer.

Or so the theory goes: Scott is a pretty awkward guy who is into comic books and video games. This does not make him a villain, but it does give him the qualities of a lonely, quiet person who might do something in the future.

The author of the hypothesis also notes that the shy guitarist is so obsessed with Ramona and beating up her ex-boyfriends. He can not accept the idea of the girl's previous relationships.

Redditor SurpriseOedipus (who is the theory author) also points out that the video game abilities may not actually exist.

On the contrary, Scott's hobbies emphasize his narcissism, endowing him with skills and a special purpose to save Ramona from the "evil" ex-boyfriends. Sort of a princess trapped in a dungeon version.

But it should be mentioned — Ramona was not a good enough character.

The author of the theory talks about her manipulative nature that destroyed all the relationships she had before Scott and forced the guy to end up with annoying lovers.

But perhaps the most interesting part of the assumption is that evil exes aren't evil at all. Each of the lovers represents parts of Ramona she can't deal with, so she forces Scott to get rid of them.

And the same guy's zeal for his girlfriend literally forces him to destroy his victims, who have at least some claim to the chick with the color-changing hair.

The fight scenes could be a metaphor for the climaxes of the mental disorder, and these fights could be a sign of Scott's attempt to take over the former affairs and Ramona's desire to get rid of the disturbing past.

"This interpretation transforms it from a quirky, action-packed romantic comedy into a psychological thriller," said the thread's creator.

The author of the theory assumes that it may all be complete nonsense, while commentators agree that it adds new layers to the story, even as they point out the inconsistencies in the hypothesis.

"I like the idea, but you failed to include how he can continue killing when all these battles have been done out in the open with crowds around. [...] There are too many loose ends in your theory," said Redditor Brief-Candle4672.

This is just an interesting way to look at the whole story. The assumption turns the film into a suspenseful picture about two people and their psychological wounds.

However, fans still see it as a fun comedy about a young man trying to find his place in the world.
