Sarah Jessica Parker Shares Heartbreaking Details About Her Romance With Robert Downey Jr

The person that Robert Downey Jr. is today is certainly not the same person that Sarah Jessica Parker met years ago in 1984.

Both actors were young, but they were already making a name for themselves in the industry, which meant that they were both under a lot of pressure from both the public and the media.

Unfortunately for the actress, the pressure was compounded by her partner's drug abuse.

From then until now, Robert Downey Jr. has been very clear and honest about his addiction journey, but that hasn't made it any easier for the people around him to survive.

Sarah Jessica Parker also never hid her thoughts about their 7-year relationship. As it turns out, it was not only her partner's destructive ways of dealing with overwhelming pressure that she had to battle, but also the people around her.

Instead of the help she needed, she was often met with ignorance and rudeness. In a recent interview with The New Yorker, the And Just Like That star opened up about her feelings:

"People around him would be dismissive of me, but I had given him stability and tried to create a steady heartbeat that allowed him to show up on time. That made me angry and embarrassed me," the actress said.

Although the actor himself never had anything but love and respect for the woman who tried to create a perfect environment for him to exist and not lose everything he already had to alcohol and drugs, it was clearly not enough to sustain the relationship.

Although she was afraid that Downey Jr. would die without her help, the actress had to leave the relationship.

Unfortunately, the young love story between two actors did not end on the best terms, but this ending was also a new beginning for both Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. to explore their separate paths.

And it looks like life has worked out pretty well for both of them so far, so the hardest decision has definitely paid off.
