The star isn’t as worried about her own awards as she is about the film’s legacy.

It's not every day that the Internet is buzzing about a movie that was released in 2009. However, the story of The Blind Side and the allegations made by the real-life victim of the events depicted in the film make this movie stand out from the usual crowd.

Although the story told by former NFL star Michael Oher, who was the inspiration behind the film, deserves all the attention it has received, no matter how many years have passed, the Internet has taken it upon itself to take the situation to the extreme.

According to Michael Oher himself, the movie glosses over the help of many black people who were just as involved in his upbringing as Leigh Anne Tuohy. The movie paints a damaging picture and relies on the "white savior" trope, which doesn't reflect reality.

Sandra Bullock, the actress who portrayed Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side and won the Academy Award for Best Actress, has yet to comment publicly on the backlash. However, sources close to her claim that the actress is devastated by the news:

“She hates that such a wonderful story, a spectacular movie, and a spectacular time in her life now has been tainted. Now people won’t watch it and if they do, they will have a completely different reaction to its original intention. There was so much hard work put into the film that they all thought was the truth and now that has been questioned,” an unnamed source told Daily Mail.

Within days, the online community was up in arms on social media, demanding that the story be re-told and that the entire cast and production team be stripped of their awards.

While these actions are highly unlikely to be taken, audiences are waiting for more to be done to control the damage of such accusations and bring justice to Oher and his story.
