Sad Truth Behind Katherine Heigl's Grey's Anatomy Emmys Withdrawal

No matter how lucky you are as an actor to break through and land a role on a huge show that is loved by millions, that luck may not last as long as you would like. Whether due to poor writing or behind-the-scenes conflicts, many actors leave shows much sooner than expected.

And the details of these exits are always juicy enough to be the basis for an episode of some soap opera.

Katherine Heigl's departure from Grey's Anatomy, for example, was one of the most talked about TV events of the year back in 2010. While fans of the show were extremely sad to lose Izzie Stevens, the attention of bystanders was more focused on the allegations against Shonda Rhimes and the production team behind the show.

One of the main points that the actress made very clear in her statements was that her character, as well as several others, was not given enough time to shine. In fact, that was the main reason Heigl withdrew her Emmy nomination. At the time, the actress said she didn't have any scenes to showcase her talent.

However, she has since come to regret her decision. As Heigl admitted in an interview with EW, she went to apologize to Rhimes almost immediately but was still bombarded in the media for years. As you can imagine, it didn't do wonders for her mental health.

“I remember doing this little independent movie and just afraid to say anything about anything. I remember wearing shoes a size too small because I was afraid to tell wardrobe that they weren’t big enough because I didn’t want to be difficult,” the actress recalled.

Fortunately for the actress, she was able to rebuild her reputation and even reconcile with her Grey's Anatomy co-star Ellen Pompeo in an Actors on Actors interview for Variety. Though it took some time, this is the story that ended well for everyone involved.
