We bet you never noticed this little detail in the poster all these years.

Summary:

  • Damien Chazelle’s 2016 grand hit La La Land is to this day a perfect musical story to millions of fans across the world, but, apparently, not to the movie’s leading actor.
  • According to Ryan Gosling, he spoiled the film’s iconic and very recognisable scene with a gesture that he thought would look cool.
  • The actor also admitted that his dancing experience prior to La La Land eventually didn’t work out the way he wanted while filming the movie.

Damien Chazelle’s biggest hit La La Land may seem a flawless, yet bittersweet, musical romance that back in 2016 shattered everyone’s hearts with its pretty much realistic ending, but all this isn’t that flawless for Ryan Gosling.

The movie’s leading actor starred alongside Emma Stone bringing to the screens a steamy story of an aspiring actress and an ambitious jazz musician — and the seemingly perfect iconic scene that appeared in the film is something that Gosling isn’t happy about.

In one of his latest interviews the actor revealed that there’s one La La Land scene that haunts him to this day so much that he would be down for redoing it. The scene captures Emma Stone’s Mia and Ryan Gosling’s Sebastian dancing together with the spectacular view of Los Angeles night lights behind them.

According to Gosling, he had absolutely no clue that this moment in the movie would initially become the official poster.

Like so many others, you’ve probably overlooked this till today, but now you will surely not be able to unsee it. As Gosling revealed, both he and Stone were supposed to have their hands up while dancing, but he came up with a different and original idea to position his hand at a flat angle so that it would be “cooler”. The actor then clarified that everyone on set was trying to dissuade him, but he was quite firm in this decision.

Now that Gosling gets to see his awkward hand position every time the movie’s poster pops up somewhere, he admits that “it just killed the energy that way” also revealing that he himself calls the scene La La Hand.

The actor later on was told that dancers also use “hamburger hands”, their own nickname for weirdly looking gestures, about which Gosling never heard earlier, though he’s been quite a dancer even before La La Land.

Talking about his dancing experience, Gosling lamented that he’d hoped it’d helped him while filming the movie, but in the end nothing but “Hamburger Hands Gosling” came around.
