Russell T Davies Teases Doctor Who’s Most Ambitious Crossover Yet: ‘It Must Happen’
And you can do your part to make it happen.
Whether you have seen an episode of Doctor Who or not, it’s hard to deny that the British sci-fi staple of 60 years has now taken over all fans of the genre and written its title in history as one of the most iconic pieces next to such big players as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactica.
If there is a fantasy universe as well developed, deeply unserious, and dependent on space travel as Doctor Who, it is Star Trek. And it is not surprising that many fans are interested in both at the same time. People have been begging for years to see the two worlds collide, and thanks to the panel at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, some progress is being made.
Doctor Who and Star Trek Crossover Episode
In the spirit of the inaugural Intergalactic Friendship Day, which took place on Tuesday, July 30, Doctor Who's current showrunner Russell T. Davies and Star Trek's executive producer Alex Kurtzman came together at a Comic-Con panel. As expected, the question of a crossover between the two worlds came up again.
While Kurtzman assured fans that both universes share the same values, the same approach to intergalactic adventure, and the same passion for getting more generations interested in what the world has to offer, Davies reminded fans of the importance of their voices. If the crossover ever happens, it will be thanks to dedicated viewers:
“We would love to bring you a crossover episode and the way we can make that happen is the fans. The fans continue to make crossover art, and stories and continue to ask and push to bring these two universes together. Because we must get together. It must happen,” he said.
Unfortunately, it's hard to say when and how the two universes might collide on fans' screens. But until that happens and we get the long-awaited announcement, fans of both Doctor Who and Star Trek can get a glimpse of what it might look like in two mobile games coming out on August 1.
