The cinematic universe failed on all counts, but many fans can't let it go.

Some feel that a movie about the character could have been a new beginning for Warner Brothers, but studio bosses eventually abandoned the idea of bringing all the villains together.

Fans were pretty scared of Mr. Hyde, played by Russell Crowe. It's even more disappointing that the studio has decided not to make a standalone movie about the character.

And Redditor housepainterr has a whole theory as to why Mr. Hyde was so terrifying.

If the book version of Jekyll had a mental breakdown, the movie would likely show a supernatural situation. Jekyll created a serum that he thought would stop Hyde, but it only strengthened his hidden alter ego.

However, the fan notes that in the version of the character that Russell Crowe portrayed on screen, Jekyll did not take any drugs, his body remained the same, but there was incredible aggression in his eyes.

The Redditor also notes Hyde's inhuman strength, which he applies to The Mummy protagonist Nick Morton.

There are also textual clues in the fight scene that Jekyll is actually a demon. He laughs hysterically, abruptly changes his face, and instantly becomes the otherworldly being. In the movie, the character is the head of a monster-hunting organization.

It just seems to the fan that Jekyll came in contact with the impure power to fight evil and turned into Mr. Hyde.

The Redditor really regrets that Warner Brothers decided to abandon its plans for the Dark Universe, because Dr. Jekyll turned out to be really scary.

And Russell Crowe brought his share of horror and madness to the character. The Hyde moment was one of the few highlights of 2017's The Mummy.

Many fans love the theory. But what infuriates them most, however, is that the studio has decided to halt development on many villain-based movies before the entertaining part even begins.

Perhaps someday Warner Brothers will return to its idea of a universe about different bad guys, but for now, the studio has no such plans.
