Some Academy Members Refuse to Vote For The Oscars: Here’s Why
The Oscars ceremony has not been doing great recently when it comes to ratings. Many have already suggested that maybe the Academy Award in and on itself is a relic that needs to go.
Some “below-the-line” members of the Academy seem to have abstained from voting for this year’s Oscars because of the decision not to air the presentation of all 23 categories, according to a Next Best Picture reporter Will Mavity.
Eight of the 23 categories will be presented during the pre-show - it is one of the latest attempts by the organizers to improve the ceremony’s ratings. Among such categories are Documentary (Short Subject), Film Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Production Design, Short Film (Animated), Short Film (Live Action), and Sound.
However, the decision of Academy voters to refrain from voting in protest received some criticism on social media.
The bizarre changes may be connected to the fact that this year’s show is not going to feature a lot of mainstream nominees. For example, ‘Dune ’ is the only Best Picture nominee with a box office over $100 million, and hits like ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘No Time to Die’ were largely ignored by the 94th Oscars.
As one of the users noted, no big names have not yet been announced for the show either.
