Robert Englund Pitched Himself As The Villain For 'Stranger Things' Season 4
The 'Nightmare on Elm Street' star's appearance in the trailer for the upcoming 'Stranger Things' Season 4 was a big surprise to fans of both franchises. The creators of the series revealed how the horror legend became the star of Netflix's biggest show.
During Duffer brothers' interview for IGN, showrunners talked about Robert Englund 's involvement with Stranger Things, declining to elaborate on his character's role in the upcoming season. It seems that Victor Creel, a serial killer held in a mental institution, will play a pivotal role in the narrative of the series, which the show's creators do not yet want to reveal.
However, Duffers talked about Englund himself, describing his casting as a "work of destiny". Apparently, Englund reached out to them himself, which was very surprising to showrunners.
"The fact that he came to us in a season that's so deeply inspired by the Nightmare series and by his performance, especially in those movies, it felt like fate…It felt like, 'okay, this is meant to be", said Matt Duffer.
Fans are excited to see their favorite horror icon in the big-budget Netflix series, and many are enthusiastically discussing his character's first look on Twitter.
It looks like season 4 will lean more toward horror, and the latest trailer sends some major goose bumps down fans' spines. The appearance of Freddy Krueger himself as a blind mutilated man only further confirms this change of direction for the show.
The first part of 'Stranger Things' season 4 is arriving on Netflix May 27, 2022.
