Riverdale Season 7 Reddit Theory Explores New Timeline Possibilities
Season 6 finale surely went for a big plot twist.

If you thought 'Riverdale' could no longer surprise you… well, it just did.
To make a long story short, the city of Riverdale has managed to survive a deadly comet that was heading towards it thanks to Percival. In order to do so, the heroes had to come together with all their powers and fuel Cheryl so that she could destroy the comet.
She sort of did destroy the comet, but it would be wrong to say that Riverdale will be the same. Basically, the comet reset the entire city, plunging the heroes back to… the 1950s, essentially making them teens again.
Yes, it is a time jump we're talking about – and many fans are already suggesting that a large part of the upcoming season 7 is going to take place in the 1950s. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the showrunner himself, said that it was as much of a clean slate as the show could allow itself at this point, so mixing 50s high school nostalgia with some blank canvas for the characters, story-wise, makes a lot of sense.
However, one fan theory posted on Reddit voiced hopes that the showrunners will make sure there is at least some semblance of balance between the 1950s and modern times.
"Ideally, I think a half-and-half season would be really cool conceptually, with half taking place in the 1950's and half in the present. I would hate to think that the characters we've come to know over the past 6 seasons have lost memory of everything that's happened over the past 6 seasons," the fan wrote.
Now that the characters are pushed back in time, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says that a lot of things might also be reset, including the love triangles. In an interview with EW, Aguirre-Sacasa said that "none of them [the characters] are in the deep tortured relationships that we know and love with them" – something that basically opens dozens of new possibilities.
'Riverdale' was greenlit for season 7 in March 2022, with the premiere date still to be scheduled.
