Right Order to Watch The Indiana Jones Adventures Before the Upcoming Dial of Destiny
After over 40 years in the game and on the big screen, with four films and a spin-off series, the adventure franchise created by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas is back with a new film.
In anticipation of the new Indiana Jones adventures, here is the correct order of all the movies you can re-watch before the release of The Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
0. The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992-1996)
The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles is an optional but canonical starting point for the Indiana Jones story. The series features different versions of Indy, including his teenage/adult adventures.
The series goes into more detail about Indy's background and his relationship with his father. While not essential, it adds depth to the Indiana Jones saga.
1. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
Although released after Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom is chronologically the first Indiana Jones film, taking place a year earlier.
The movie follows Indy as he travels to Northern India to help locals find their missing children and a stolen sacred stone.
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Set in the year 1936, Indiana Jones fights against the Nazis in order to recover the powerful Ark of the Covenant, which Hitler believes will help him to conquer the world.
The movie remains the exciting beginning of the Indiana Jones franchise, taking audiences on a globe-trotting adventure filled with action and excitement.
3. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
Before returning to the familiar timeline, the third installment features a younger Indy in the opening sequence. Indy is on a quest to find both a precious artifact and his missing father, who has fallen into the hands of the Nazis.
This is the last movie in the franchise before it takes a time jump to the more recent entries.
4. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Indiana Jones makes a comeback in a new adventure story after a hiatus of almost 20 years.
This time Indy has a son, Mutt, who is played by Shia LaBeouf and together they face off against Soviet agent Irina Spalko, portrayed by Cate Blanchett.
Adding a new element to the franchise, the movie revolves around a race for a telepathic crystal skull with alien powers.
5. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
In the final Indiana Jones film, Indy faces off against his old adversary, Jürgen Voller, portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen, during the space race of the late '60s.
Indy must team up with his goddaughter Helena to stop Voller, who plans to use the mystical Dial of Destiny to change the past.
Although this film will mark Harrison Ford 's final appearance as Indy, it doesn't mean that we won't see more treasure hunts in the future.
