The issues didn't arise yesterday, the strike was a long time coming.

The news that the SAG AFTRA actors' strike has joined forces with the already ongoing WGA writers' strike has shaken the industry to its core. What no one could have expected, a literal shutdown of numerous Hollywood productions has become a reality, showing how far apart entertainment professionals really are in their views.

One of the main goals the actors are trying to achieve with the strike is fair payment for the actors from the streaming platforms. From what is already known to the public, it may seem that the issue of non-existent residuals from shows is relatively new, but more and more actors are coming out to say how bad it was years ago before the strike took place.

One of the stars who came forward to not only explain her views but to show evidence of the studio's neglect of the actors, was Kimiko Glenn. The actress starred in Netflix 's iconic show Orange Is The New Black, which at one point held the title of the service's most-watched and longest-running original series.

Despite all the praise, recognition, and success the show has brought to the studio, Netflix hasn't been in a hurry to pay back the actors. Glenn, who portrayed Brook Soso for three seasons and later guest-starred, recently showed off the check she has for her residuals. The actress was paid $27,30 for all appearances during three years of consistent work.

"We were not paid very well. And when I tell "not paid very well" you would die. People were bartenders still. People had their second jobs still. They were f#cking famous as sh#t, like, internationally famous. Couldn't go outside but had to keep their second jobs, because they couldn't afford to not," the actress shared in a follow-up video.

Whether or not you agree that actors deserve royalties from streaming platforms, there's no dialogue about fair pay.

With several actresses speaking out about being paid a SAG AFTRA minimum of less than $900 a day, and Beth Dover admitting she lost more money traveling to be on seasons 3 and 4, it's easy to see why the strike was so inevitable. Unfortunately, every change in the last 10 years since 2013 has only made things worse.

Keep an eye out for more news and updates on the SAG AFTRA actors' strike so you don't miss any important negotiating points.
