As the iconic BBC series marks six decades of traveling through time and space, fans simply can't wait to see what's next.

The new trailer for Doctor Who 60th anniversary special has made waves in the fandom, with Redditors quickly deciphering all the clues and hints they spot in the clip — and it looks like fans are onto something.

With David Tennant making a bombshell return as the Tenth (technically, Fourteenth) Doctor in the special, the majority of fan theories predictably focus on him. Tennant's Doctor is considered to be an iconic, if not the best, portrayal of the Time Lord.

But how exactly his return will be explained? Here's what fans think.

Reddit Came Up With the Worst Possible Doctor Who Ending

According to Redditor chloe-and-timmy, it's likely that the entire story will be about Donna specifically and how she may have affected the regeneration and "made them become Tennant again." Some speculate that it may be about Tennant's Doctor's unconscious, unresolved guilt regarding the way things ended with Donna.

"I'm figuring the Toymaker has set up a game for the Doctor around killing Donna and has given him Tennant's face, the only one Donna isn't allowed to see, for the duration of the game as an additional challenge," Redditor Carwashcnt continued.

Other fans suggested that Ncuti Gatwa 's "someone tell me what the hell is going on here" line that he said at the end of the trailer is "very Donna."

Whether it is guilt or an identity crisis that is behind Tennant's return, fans are happy no matter what. The 60th-anniversary specials will air on BBC at some point in 2023, with the exact premiere date to be revealed later.
