It looks like Netflix's adaptation of Roald Dahl's 'Matilda' is in hot water, as Emma Thompson gets accused of fat-shaming over her Miss Trunchbull costume.

Netflix recently released the first trailer for their highly anticipated book adaptation, showing off some impressive acting, weird atmosphere and colorful creative design. The trailer looked completely harmless, until some people noticed something amiss in Thompson's performance as Headmistress Trunchbull, quickly realizing that the famous actress wore a special bodysuit that greatly increased her size to play the bulky villain. People were quick to accuse Thompson and Netflix of fat-shaming, but is this really the case?

In a Reddit thread on the issue, most fans support Thompson, explaining to offended people that Ms. Trunchbull was originally an athlete, and Thompson's costume represents that part of her personality, rather than highlighting the fact that she is overweight.

"She doesn't look fat she looks hench af just as a shot putter should. How else will she be able to swing a kid by her pigtails and send her flying through the air?" – /MuffinFeatures.

And yet some people are still upset, accusing not only the creative team behind the film, but also Roald Dahl himself for the fatphobia.

"Roald Dahl stories are all like inherently fatphobic; if the same standards were applied back then, none of these stories would have been published and they wouldn't exist in the public sphere to argue about." – /hotelzaza322.

Others are already anticipating the public's reaction to the upcoming 'Willy Wonka ' movie, which will clearly touch on the subject of fatphobia much more.

"If this ground round lost her mind over this, wait till they remake Willy Wonka again. All those little butterball children getting merked by the factory for gluttony and vice is gonna send this lady into heart palpitations," – /TheBigIdiotSalami.
