Reddit Defends Austin Butler Amid Accusations Of Changing His Voice To Sound Like Elvis
The star of Baz Luhrmann's latest film found himself embroiled in a strange controversy: many fans accused him of copying the King too much.
'The Carrie Diaries' actor is preparing to make a huge breakthrough by playing the legendary Elvis Presley along with Tom Hanks and Maggie Gyllenhaal. But playing the King is certainly difficult enough: the singer's face and voice are instantly recognizable to almost everyone in the United States and around the world.
To make the audience believe in his performance, Butler underwent a major physical transformation, learning to speak as Presley spoke and move as he did. But it seems that some fans believe that Butler wasn't able to say goodbye to his screen persona even after the filming was over.
But many fans on Reddit decided to defend the actor, arguing that the fact that he now sounds like Elvis must be the effect of the transformation he has undergone, and that stepping back from his career-making role is certainly difficult enough, mentally at least.
Others discuss other possibilities, including contractual obligations and Butler's decision to promote the film in this strange way.
'Elvis' will rock theatres on June 24, 2022.
