Real Reason Why We Didn't Have Tilda Swinton in Harry Potter
It's still hard to imagine that there is even one person in the world that is not crazy about the Harry Potter franchise. Still, they exist.
And what's more heartbreaking is the fact that this particular "one" is Tilda Swinton.
The magnificent actress Harry Potter 's fans were always picturing in at least one Wizarding World movie. But there are several reasons we never had her in them.
The first one is actually pretty simple: scheduling difficulties. Several years ago, before the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban part was shot, Swinton was approached by the studio to play Professor Trelawney.
But she couldn't accept the offer because she was busy with another project that needed her constant attention. But as it turned out later, this reason could have been just a polite excuse…
One thing you should know about Swinton is that at a young age she attended the West Heath Girls' School in Kent.
And because of that she has often expressed dismay at the concept of boarding schools, calling it "hell." And in her mind that is a valid enough reason for her to pass on Potter movies.
"That's why I dislike films like Harry Potter which tend to romanticize such places. I think they are a very cruel setting in which to grow up and I don't feel children benefit from that type of education. Children need their parents and the love parents can provide," she said in the interview.
Needless to say Harry Potter fans were deeply offended after hearing that.
"I disagree with her anyway, Hogwarts doesn't romanticize the boarding school experience, most of the time the hero is miserable there, with trouble and danger always threatening him and his friends," Reddit user bellerophon30 said.
Well, it seems now all this is just water under the bridge. Because we believe no one can imagine Professor Trelawney portrayed by anyone except the amazing Emma Thompson today.
