Real Reason Why Jenna Ortega Never Returned For You Season 4
The adventures of Jenna Ortega and stalkers, right?
The showrunners of Netflix 's You wanted to bring Jenna Ortega 's Ellie back for season 4, but a certain Tim Burton-directed hit show prevented them from doing so.
Ortega was a part of You in season 2 and was mentioned (without a physical appearance) in season 3. She portrayed Ellie Alves, a "practically 16" girl who lives in Joe's apartment building and wants to pursue a career in the film industry.
At the end of season 2, Joe forces her to take his money, leave Los Angeles, and start a new life elsewhere after he kills a man who tried to drug and sexually assault her. In season 3, Joe mentions that he continues to send her money.
It turns out the You showrunners still had some ideas for Ellie, but by the time they were ready to sign her for season 4, the Addams Family spinoff Wednesday got in the way.
"We wanted to bring Ellie back and we heard, 'Oh, Jenna is doing some show,'" You showrunner Sera Gamble told IndieWire. "It's been just such a pleasure to see Jenna this year. We have ideas for Ellie if her schedule allows her to visit us again."
The "some show" in question was Wednesday, now a huge Netflix hit, which brought Ortega worldwide fame and filled her schedule with new projects. Wednesday quickly became Netflix's second-biggest English-language show, but scheduling conflicts never allowed Ortega to return for the fourth installment of You.
Her former co-stars seem happy for her success, with You star Penn Badgley noting that she's "so talented" and "really deserves it."
Wednesday has been greenlit for a second season by Netflix. Both the first season of the Addams Family spinoff and the fourth season of You are currently available to stream on the platform.
