Real-Life Tragedy That Actually Helped Grey’s Anatomy’s Izzie In a Devastating Scene 

Grey's Anatomy is probably the most popular medical show on television today. And why wouldn't it be? The show has an exciting plot with twists and turns that keep fans on the edge of their seats every episode.

The cast of the show is actually brilliant. Sometimes you even forget that these people are actors because they play the doctors so real that you actually start to believe that they can save lives.

But with that said, the show is actually full of drama. Tragic things happen every season, and sometimes it's just so devastating that the fans can't recover from it for many days.

And the same goes for the cast. Tragedy in the show always makes them feel miserable. Especially given the fact that Grey's Anatomy deals with a lot of life-threatening moments. One of those was the devastating death of everyone's favorite patient Denny Duquette.

After Izzie, brilliantly portrayed by Katherine Heigl, falls in love with her patient and commits unethical practices to get him a heart, Denny still dies. And if that wasn't enough to make viewers burst into tears, Heigl went the extra mile to deliver the emotion.

There was a scene when Izzie was laying with Danny in his hospital bed, just right about the time he died. And the scene was so emotional that fans still call it one of the most heart-breaking moments of all time.

And what actually made them love it even more was the attitude that Heigl put into the scene to make it as real as possible.

“I was 7 when my brother died, but we were in the hospital for a week. I don't enjoy thinking about that much or that week in the hospital or him in that bed, but I chose to do that for that scene," she shared in the interview with Variety.

By all accounts, Heigl's emotional work made the scene even more heartbreaking. But if you ask the actress, it's not exactly the kind of thing she'd choose to do over again.
