To say that the first chapter of Doctor Who's three-part 60th anniversary celebration made an impression would be an understatement. People from all over the world were glued to their screens on November 25th to make up their own minds about the episode The Star Beast and about the new Doctor as a whole.

The fandom was divided throughout the anniversary promotion period. While the comeback of the David Tennant and Catherine Tate duo was highly appreciated, as was the intention to fix the terrible ending Donna Noble suffered, not everyone was convinced that they wanted a celebration of this magnitude to focus solely on one era.

Many Whovians feared that the 60th anniversary of the beloved sci-fi, with Russell T. Davies back at the helm, would be nothing more than the renaissance of the 10th Doctor. Now that the episode has been released, it's clearer than ever that this was never the case.

What remained was the amazing chemistry between the Doctor and his companion, Donna Noble. And if Donna even for a minute changed her attitude towards her chaotic intergalactic friend, the fans would probably be at the writers' throats faster than the Dalek could scream "Exterminate."

How The 10th Doctor Is Different From The 14th Doctor

Instead, we were given the moment to jump up and down and cheer not only at the happy reunion, but alongside them as they re-entered the TARDIS in a new interior. While some would say the moment felt a little too emotional for the Doctor as we know them, others would argue that this is exactly what the 14th incarnation is all about.

From what fans have been able to glean from just one episode of the specials, this is the Doctor who is as overcome by nostalgia as the rest of us. This is the Doctor who isn't afraid to admit their affections and their fears, and the Doctor who is more than willing to show their emotional side.

This is definitely a solid change from the 10th incarnation, but it also leaves fans wondering how these changes will affect Ncuti Gatwa 's 15th Doctor too.

For now, though, we can all enjoy the festival of love that Doctor Who has become. Hearing the 14th Doctor openly declare his love for both Donna and her grandfather Wilfred Mott had many viewers fighting back tears. If there's one promise that Russell T. Davies has kept, it's that the Doctor now seems more human than ever.

Which, as we know, unfortunately also makes him more vulnerable than ever.
