Even before the second season of the Reacher TV series premiered, the show was already renewed for season 3, which clearly indicated that the creators were convinced of the success of the project.

This confidence proved to be justified, as even though season 2 caused quite a stir among fans due to some rather controversial changes in the story and other aspects, it ultimately managed to become an even bigger success than the debut season.

Naturally, ever since it was announced that the third season was on its way, fans have been speculating on which of the 26 remaining Jack Reacher novels it will be based on, keeping a close eye on any potential clues.

Recently, Alan Ritchson, who portrays the titular character, mentioned that the second novel, Die Trying, is his personal favorite and he can't wait to see it adapted into the series, while Lee Child, the author of the books, stated that season 3 will focus on Jack's solo adventure.

Season 3 Will Be Based On The Seventh Novel In The Series

However, fans didn't have to speculate for long because now, less than a week after the final episode of season 2 premiered, it has just been revealed that season 3 will be based on Persuader, which was first published in 2003.

Since not all fans of the show are familiar with the source material, they are now asking those members of the fanbase who have actually read Persuader to tell them what to expect from the next chapter of the story.

Bad Luck and Trouble, on which season 2 was based, was a bit different from other books, and that clearly translated into the TV adaptation, leading to the aforementioned polarizing reactions, so one naturally wonders if season 3 will maintain the same approach.

Jack Will Finally Come Face To Face With His Equal

Those who have read the book say that it is one of the best novels that follows Reacher on a quest for revenge and features a villain who proves to be Jack's equal, leading to a rather spectacular confrontation between the two.

This could also be a potential problem, as in order to make the antagonist truly intimidating, the show's creators will have to find an actor who can dwarf Alan Ritchson, which won't be easy considering the latter's already impressive physique.

One of the most popular choices among fans is Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who portrayed Gregor Clegane aka "The Mountain" in HBO's Game of Thrones TV series, but no official information about the full cast has been revealed yet.

They also point out that, given the controversial reactions to some rather unrealistic moments in season two, a particular sequence in which Reacher barely survives against virtually impossible odds could also cause significant outrage.

Still, there will inevitably be changes to the story, as it was also confirmed that Maria Sten will reprise her role as Frances Neagley, despite the fact that the character was not in the original novel.

With all this in mind, it seems that season 3 will indeed follow a smaller character-driven story compared to season 2, which will most likely prove to be a welcome change.
