No one saw it coming.

The saga of Quentin Tarantino 's 10 films has been going on for the past 11 years, ever since the director announced his decision to retire or explore other formats after releasing 10 feature films. Considering that he already has 9 titles in his filmography, it's only fair for everyone to expect the announcement soon.

The 10th Quentin Tarantino movie was announced back in 2023. It was supposed to star Brad Pitt and was inspired by Tarantino's own former job loading porn magazines into vending machines. However, the movie, titled The Movie Critic, was scrapped and Tarantino went back to his idea board.

What Is Quentin Tarantino’s Tenth Film?

Since the director considers Kill Bill a feature film, even though it was released in two parts, and doesn't really count his amateur project My Best Friend's Birthday, which never saw the light of day, the next feature film he releases will be his last.

“You stop when you stop, but in a fanciful world, 10 movies in my filmography would be nice <...> If I stop at 10, that would be OK as an artistic statement,” he once told Playboy.

The director has since made sure to comment that this doesn't necessarily mean his retirement, but that it might be the way to try his hand at a short film format or return to directing TV series. Still, fans of Tarantino's work are eagerly awaiting any announcements of what to expect in place of the axed The Movie Critic.

As it turns out, the fans aren't the only ones very interested in what's coming from Tarantino's pen. Speaking at the 2024 CineEurope trade show, Sony Pictures' President of International Distribution Steven O'Dell teased a collaboration with Quentin Tarantino.

Since the director's last film to date, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, was made in partnership with Sony, the hope is that he will come back to the studio once again.

And while no specific details about the project have been announced, the fact that the studio is keeping the door open and hopes to get to work on the film in the near future gives hope that Tarantino's final feature film will come sooner rather than later.

If you consider yourself a fan of Quentin Tarantino's films, be sure to keep an eye out for any announcements. In the meantime, you can always stream the director's latest film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, on Hulu.
