Is there still a place for her in the story?

Summary:

  • Quantum Leap is an NBC reboot of the sci-fi TV series of the same name that has been airing from 1989 to 1993.
  • The show aired the final episode of season 2 on February 20, 2024.
  • According to showrunners Dean Georgaris and Martin Gero, the finale marked the end of Hannah Carson’s arc.

Like the original Quantum Leap, the NBC-produced reboot leaves viewers with more questions than it attempts to answer. As one thing becomes clearer, two new mysteries are immediately introduced to be solved. Though confusing at times, this is exactly what keeps viewers hooked.

Currently, the third season of the show has not been confirmed by the network. However, the creative team behind the story remains positive and shares their perspective on what the season 2 finale could mean for the show if it were to continue.

Luckily for viewers who have already fallen in love with Eliza Taylor's Hannah Carson, they're not shying away from the question of her return.

There is nothing sadder than saying goodbye to a character who has been so good throughout her run. Though Hannah had her ups and downs, her dedication and goodness of heart ultimately brought the second chapter of the sci-fi reboot to a positive conclusion.

Showrunners Dean Georgaris and Martin Gero agree that such an ending may not be the easiest to swallow, but it only adds to the beauty of the story. They discussed the possibility of Hannah returning with Screen Rant:

“I think closure is a good word. One of the beautiful things about the last hour, in particular, is, ultimately, all the help Hannah has given Ben in leaps and the fact that she writes this swap code to bring him potentially back together with Addison. He helps save her son from the bitterness and pain of having lost his father,” Georgaris said.

But Hannah fans need not worry just yet. Even though Hannah's arc has come to an end by the logic of the season and the overall theme of sacrifice, the showrunners aren't too keen on the idea of letting her go. Selfish or not, both producers admit they enjoy working with Eliza Taylor too much for this to be the end.

What we do know is that the writers of Quantum Leap are not going to sacrifice the quality of the story in any way, so there's no need to worry.

Whatever season 3 brings, if it ever comes around, will be an entertaining adventure, whether or not Hannah has a place in it. Keep an eye out for news and behind-the-scenes updates!
