All good things must come to an end… only for brand new things to begin. Are they just as good, though?

The long-running Pokémon anime series has recently unveiled new characters that will replace the legendary duo of Ash and Pikachu.

New Pokémon trailer introduces the four characters that will replace the seemingly immortal line-up of old heroes.

The Pokémon anime has been running since 1997, covering all the adventures that Ash and Pikachu experienced together. After 25 seasons, their journey through the Pokémon universe is finally coming to an end.

But don't discard Pikachu just yet. The new set of characters include Liko, Roy, Pokémon Professor Friede, and…Captain Pikachu!

Because the Pokémon-themed series could not live without its loveable mascot. Captain Pikachu – and how could it be otherwise – will be distinguished by a captain's hat.

Having introduced a new, yet slightly changed and updated, version of Pikachu, the series builds upon its legacy.

So, what does the rest of this new generation look like? New trailer gives us a glimpse of four new characters that will accompany us over the next few years.

The focus of the new Pokémon season are young Liko and Roy. Character of Liko possesses a prized pendant that ties her deeply to Pokémon mythology. Meanwhile, the ambitious Roy finds himself in the possession of a mysterious Poké Ball.

The third important character in the sequel is Friede, a Pokémon Professor who eagerly plunges into the world of pocket monsters. That's him who will be accompanied by Captain Pikachu.

On a nostalgic note, even though the sequel and new character are inevitable, few things can replace Ash and the original Pikachu in fans' hearts. This is why some fans are not feeling very welcoming towards the new characters.

"The Pokemon anime without Ash and Pikachu isn't the the Pokemon anime to me. I won't say I wish for it to fail, because I don't care one way or the other, whether it fails or succeeds.

If I hear really good things about the anime, I may return, but I doubt it. Ash and Pikachu were synonymous with the anime to me, and many others feel the same way. That's all there is to it," Redditor RebelScourge says.

The Pokémon sequel will start in Japan on April 14, 2023.
