Paul Wesley To Play Captain Kirk On 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds', And Fans Are Not Happy About It
The actor will appear as a young Captain Kirk this spring.
Paul Wesley is best known for his work in the romantic teen series ‘The Vampire Diaries ’. But his new role is completely different.
James T.Kirk is an iconic character for the ‘Trek’ lore. And 39 years old Wesley is the third actor who will bring Kirk to screen. Не takes over from William Shatner and Chris Pine.
Paul seems to be very thrilled with this opportunity. He shared the news on Instagram calling it ‘the honor of playing the inimitable James T Kirk’. He also mentioned that he has been a ‘Star Trek ’ fan since he was a kid.
I am deeply humbled and still a little startled to have been given the honor of playing the inimitable James T Kirk.
But not all the fans are happy with this casting. Reddit users assume that Kirk probably doesn’t need another reincarnation on TV screen – especially after the questionable movie reboot. So there is a theory that Paul will only get a cameo. Also some fans pointed out the age difference: Kirk’s age in this timeline is only 26 or 27, but the actor himself is almost 40 years old.
