Paul Dano’s Riddler Portrayal Left Jim Carrey Worried
Jim Carrey hasn't seen Matt Reeves' version of 'The Batman', but he already has his opinion of Paul Dano's Riddler.
Comedian, infamous for his turn as Edward Nigma in 1995 'Batman Forever', expressed his 'mixed emotions' over new, darker interpretation of a legendary Batman's antagonist. Looks like Carrey is concerned about the violence, graphically depicted in the film, and the effects it might cause on "some sickos out there".
"I do worry. There's a spot of worry in me over gaffer-taping people's faces and encouraging people to do the same… Some sickos out there that might adopt that method…I do have a conscience about the things I choose…I know there's a place for it, and I don't want to criticize it, but it's not my kind of thing…", Carrey told Unilad.
Carrey tried to sweeten the pill by saying that "it's very well done, those movies are very well done" and praising Dano as a "tremendous actor", but his opposition to on-screen violence are already publicly known. In 2013, after the Sandy Hook shootings, Carrey criticized his own film 'Kick-Ass 2' for extensive use violence. So, the actor's reaction to the new, darker direction for the character he once played, is understandable, if a little bit self-righteous.
Public's reaction was not in Carrey's favor, with some fans saying that Dano's performance was way better than comedian's back in 1995, while others urging Carrey to "mind his own business".
Some fans are trying to make fun of the whole situation.
