Outlander Prequel Gets Its Leads (And a Surprising Update)
More storylines, more fun!
Summary:
- Outlander is a Starz period drama that has been on the air since 2014.
- Back in 2023, it was announced that the show will get a prequel focusing on the male lead's parents, titled Blood of My Blood.
- Now, the prequel has secured 4 actors as series regulars and announced the show will also follow the story of the female lead's parents.
As one of the most popular shows on the network, Outlander doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. It's rare enough to see the time-travel drama done right, and it's even rarer to see it set entirely in the past. So all the fans of period shows are clinging to Outlander as much as they can.
Fortunately, the story just keeps on giving. Despite all the challenges the production had to face due to COVID-19 and the shorter season release, Outlander is still going strong and even chooses to give its fans a deeper look into the past with its new prequel.
Officially announced a year ago, in January 2023, Blood of My Blood is now going into production. Here's everything we know so far about the Outlander prequel.
When Will Outlander’s Prequel Premiere?
One of the biggest surprises for those who have been waiting for updates on Blood of My Blood was the fact that the story will take place in two different time periods. Staying true to what originally drew viewers to the original series, Starz will continue to explore different eras through Jamie and Claire's parents.
Jamie's parents, whose love story will be set in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands, will be portrayed by Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater. Viewers may recognize Roy from his performance as Sergeant Lewis in Condor's Nest, while Slater is best known for her roles in Pennyworth and Belgravia: The Next Chapter.
Although Claire has few memories of her parents, viewers will be able to catch a glimpse of their lives in First World War England. Claire's mother will be played by Star Wars ' Hermione Corfield, who will star opposite Mamma Mia 's Jeremy Irvine as Claire's father.
Blood of My Blood will film its 10 episodes in Scotland, with the script following both couples in parallel. Although the production team hasn't announced the exact dates that it will take place, if the show starts soon, there is a chance that it will be released in early 2025. So stay tuned for all the behind-the-scenes updates!
Until then, you can always re-watch the original Outlander series by streaming it on Netflix, Starz, and Starz Play Amazon Channel.
