In terms of genre, the miniseries is a psychological thriller, but while there's no denying the intriguing premise, that's not why Sam Heughan fans are ecstatic about — Scotland's leading heartthrob has posted an incredibly steamy sneak peek, where the actor shares a passionate kiss.
What Is the New Show with Sam Heughan About?
The Couple Next Door is a British television series produced by Eagle Eye Drama. According to the premise, the plot follows Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) and Pete (Alfred Enoch) who have moved to a new neighborhood. Another couple, traffic cop Danny (Sam Heughan) and yoga instructor Becka (Jessica De Gouw), live next door to them. Over the course of the series, Tomlinson and Heughan's characters develop strong feelings for each other, and after spending one night together, they become involved in events that will change their lives forever.
Although the description fits a rom-com or romantic drama, the show is billed as a psychological thriller, so we are in for a gripping story about how passion can have unpleasant consequences.
Sam Is Excited to Be Involved
'I'm thrilled to be working with Eagle Eye Drama and director Dries Vos again and adding a third series with my STARZ family. Dries has a unique visual flair and I'm sure we're going to make something special,' Sam told the Radio Times, sharing his excitement. He previously worked with the studio and director on the British crime drama Suspect, so we should expect Sam to fit in seamlessly with the rest of the cast.
In a special Q&A, Sam also shared details with HELLO! about his character's role on the show and his love entanglement that will lead to some dark repercussions.
'They [Danny and Becka] have this slightly open relationship. But it's all played out in some pretty dark places. I think this is a story about love but it's a very strange route that we go through to get to that point,' he said.
Fans Are Going Crazy for the Passionate First Look at the Show
But most of all, we're going to have to hold our breath every time we see a new iteration of Sam. The actor recently posted an incredibly passionate moment from the show on his personal Instagram account, in which his character shares a kiss with Tomlinson's character in the pouring rain.
Fans immediately noticed parallels to the iconic scene from the 2004 film The Notebook, starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. Looks like we're in for another iconic sequence!
Where Can I Watch the New Series?
For UK audiences, The Couple Next Door is available on Channel 4 starting today, November 27. Meanwhile, Americans and Canadians can watch it where Outlander is available — on Starz. Nevertheless, it is not scheduled for release until 2024. For Latin American viewers, the series will be available on Starz's Lionsgate+ streaming service. For the rest of the world, international distribution will be handled by Beta Film.
