Oscar Isaac Wanted to Drop the First MCU's F-Bomb While Filming Moon Knight
We were robbed of a meme reference in the Disney Plus’ series.
We all know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which belongs to Disney, is known for its family-friendly content. Marvel movies rarely include swear words, and even when the rating allows for the occasional F-bomb, they usually steer clear of it.
What about TV shows? Marvel TV shows on Netflix, for example, didn't mind dropping some F-bombs, considering the grittier and more realistic vibe of those series. However, it's worth noting that those shows aren't connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe anymore.
If we are talking about Marvel shows on Disney Plus, you can bet they won't be dropping any uncensored words in there. However, one of them was actually close.
Moon Knight has garnered praise for its darker, more character-driven narrative, reminiscent of Marvel Netflix shows like Daredevil. The series explores complex themes and introduces a hero struggling with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).
Despite its mature themes, the series maintains a PG-13 rating, and explicit language remains a boundary yet to be crossed. However, Oscar Isaac, the star of Marvel's Moon Knight, shared in an interview with ScreenRant about his attempt to sneak in the first F-bomb into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While filming Moon Knight, Oscar Isaac found inspiration in a well-known meme featuring a young English boy who, after being punched, exclaims, "Oh, f**k, I can't believe you've done this!"
Isaac and his brother, who doubles for him in the series, thought it would be hilarious to incorporate this line into a scene between Isaac's character's alters, Marc Spector and Steven Grant. Despite several takes with the cheeky line, the final cut remained F-bomb free, adhering to Disney Plus' content guidelines.
The MCU has had its share of near misses with the F-word, with characters like Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson ) and Peter Parker (Tom Holland ) coming close in previous films.
However, one uncensored and untouched F-bomb finally made it to the MCU in this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In a scene on Counter-Earth, Nebula struggles with opening a car door. Irritated Star-Lord drops the hilarious “Open the f***king,” — the first uncensored F-bomb in the MCU.
