Original Weasley Twins Ready to Return in the Reboot Series, and We Have the Perfect Roles for Them
With the upcoming Harry Potter TV adaptation from HBO, some of the fans wish to see cameos from the original actors — and the Phelps brothers are down for it.
The TV show following the events of the original Harry Potter story has the fandom split in oh so many ways: some people argue whether it’s going to come out worse than the movies; others battle on whether choosing the original story was wise; and the third group is heatedly discussing the upcoming potential miscasts.
However, there’s one more low-key issue that has the fans separated, too: whether the new show would benefit from including cameos from the original movie actors or not.
On one hand, it would add that nice pinch of nostalgia for the OG fans (we guess after the series comes out, the movie generation will be considered OG, right?). On the other hand, this could confuse the audience and make the experience worse by overlapping the new and the old iterations of the story.
We can see the points of both sides, but we can’t hold our excitement upon learning that the Phelps brothers, who played the Weasley twins in the original movies, are more than eager to return for the reboot if they’re invited. It sounds way too fun!
“I suppose so. It’s one of those things where it’s never really a chapter closed in your life. Whether as our characters, that’s a totally different thing – we’re not quite looking like high schoolers anymore! If it does happen, we only know as much as you do. But, it’s nice that there’s a lot of intrigue around the show,” shared Oliver.
James supported his statement and added that they had a very close bond with the original Harry Potter cast as they’d gone through a lot together back in the day.
We’re happy to learn that James and Oliver would accept the invitation to return to the franchise, and we even have the perfect roles lined up for the brothers. Since they obviously can’t play the Weasley twins anymore and potentially can’t stay in the show for more than a couple of cameos, we think they should play the Prewett twins.
Fabian and Gideon Prewetts were Molly Weasley’s brothers who died in the First War fighting Voldemort, and they were very similar to the Weasley twins from what we know. Since the series will have more time to dive into the details, we suppose they could show the Prewett brothers in one of the Order’s members’ flashbacks.
That would allow the Phelps twins to leave their mark on the reboot without causing any major confusion and would be an amazing addition to the series. We believe that showing more backstories and context should be the way to go for the show anyways, and the addition of Oliver and James playing the Prewett brothers would be just a neat little bonus.
