Oppenheimer Isn't The First Time Cillian Murphy Portrays A Bomb Maker
A 2007 movie predicted Cillian Murphy’s future role.
Openheimer, the movie directed by Christopher Nolan about a physicist who helped develop the first nuclear weapons, is set to release on July 21, 2023.
One thing we can’t doubt about the upcoming movie is that the talented Cillian Murphy ’s performance as J. Robert Oppenheimer will be nothing but top-notch. But did you know that Oppenheimer won’t be the first time Murphy portrays a bomb maker?
In 2007, Sunshine directed by Danny Boyle was released. The film transports us to the year 2057, when the Sun is dying, plunging the Earth into an icy abyss. In a desperate attempt to save humanity, a crew of eight astronauts embarks on a dangerous mission to reignite the Sun using a colossal bomb.
Cillian Murphy portrays the role of physicist Robert Capa. He's a quiet, contemplative guy with a steely determination. Capa is not a superhero or space cowboy but instead, he brings a refreshing sense of realism making him relatable and endearing.
Murphy's portrayal of Capa becomes the anchor amidst the chaos, showcasing his ability to convey complex emotions with subtlety.
As the spaceship ventures deeper into space, the crew faces numerous challenges and dilemmas. They encounter unexpected setbacks, intense psychological pressure, and even the presence of a mysterious survivor from a failed mission.
As the crew nears their destination, tensions rise, and the stakes become impossibly high. Murphy skillfully portrays Capa's internal struggle, torn between his scientific duty and his desire to protect his comrades.
Boyle and his team captured the vastness of space with breathtaking shots. The film immerses us in the weightlessness of space and the blinding brilliance of the Sun, leaving us in awe of the cosmic beauty on display.
While Sunshine may not have received the attention it deserved upon its release, it has since gained a loyal following due to its thought-provoking storyline and remarkable performances. Murphy's nuanced portrayal of Capa is undoubtedly one of the film's highlights.
If you haven’t watched the movie, but if you are fond of space, bombs or Cillian Murphy, you should definitely give it a try.
