Only Two Station 19 Characters Have Good Storylines So Far, Fans Claim
In the latest season of Station 19, there's a tiny little issue: it's being almost entirely carried by only two characters. Fans are obviously not happy with that.
This season is very focused on Maya and Carina: they get the most screen time, their storyline receives more spotlight, and, finally, they are far more well-written than any other character in the show.
While many fans love this duo, it's underwhelming for the rest of the community. The series is not just about these two, after all.
According to fans, the entire Travis storyline is a disaster, with him running for mayor. It's going nowhere by default: neither can Travis be a mayor and a firefighter simultaneously nor does he want to become a mayor in the first place.
It's clearly a way of keeping Dixon around, but it's just wasting Travis' character and viewers' time.
Andy's not dealing with the consequences of SA, that storyline was just buried. Andy is somehow not traumatized — miraculously healed at once, like nothing ever happened.
On top of that, she's not given any character development again; instead, everything about her is just focused on the men in her life. This is not OK.
Vic's got a very similar predicament. Much like Andy, Vic is supposed to be heavily traumatized. And what do you think?
She only gets like a thirty-second scene talking about it, and her entire crisis is pretty much put under the sheets. Vic and Theo got quite a few scenes in the last couple of episodes, but the writing was flat, so yeah.
It goes for all the other characters, too: we're going to hit the word cap in no time going like this.
The thing is, the writers seem to struggle with maintaining the balance between the characters, so they just choose a few characters for the season and make it about them. All the others just get incoherent baby storylines, and that's it.
This season, the focus is on Maya, Jack, and Beckett, and the vast majority of the time we see Maya and Carina on the screen.
They are the ones who get good writing and a decent storyline this season.
So if you're not fond of them, you can pretty much drop this season and wait for the next one in hopes that your favorite characters will get the spotlight… Or that the writers will suddenly remember what an ensemble cast means.
