Only One Female Character in TBBT Had a Worse Arc Than Penny

Years after The Big Bang Theory ’s ending back in 2019, the sitcom is still a great fun for those who have been rewatching the series tirelessly all this time, but now some of its characters’ fate doesn’t seem to be that fun anymore.

The show repeatedly made it clear that only its male lead characters like Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj came a long way towards what they always wanted to achieve and thus deserved it (though Raj had no real positive update about his personal life, but still) while the female characters’ personal goals and wishes ended up being something easily ignored.

The only exception in this case is Sheldon’s girlfriend and then wife Amy who succeeded in both her personal and professional dreams, yet Penny and Bernadette’s closure was surely something to not be jealous of.

Fans have been vocal about The Big Bang Theory completely failing Penny and all of her ambitious plans, but they must’ve forgotten that Penny’s bestie also suffered enough, yet in the end she seemed to be pretty happy with her life.

Upon their marriage in the season 5 finale, Howard Wolowitz’s wife Bernadette has been pretty clear about her reluctance towards ever having children. The character once confessed that she didn’t even like children since she was forced to do a lot of work in her mother’s daycare that she ran for a while.

To make it all even worse, Bernadette also revealed that she got tired of children when her parents once again obliged her to take care of her younger siblings. However, things change radically in the following seasons, and Bernadette ends up having two kids with a minimal age difference, something that made her suffer even more.

Despite that, the character repeatedly admitted that her children were the best thing that ever happened to her, yet she still appeared to be pretty much exhausted after having to look after kids and working 24/7 to provide for her family.

Now that the show has been gone for a while and fans had quite some time to reevaluate everything that happened, it seems pretty obvious that The Big Bang Theory failed both Penny and Bernadette since it forced them to change their mind about not having kids once they got pregnant.

In this sense, both plot twists didn’t really look like a happy event for their families, but rather Penny and Bernadette’s acceptance of the fact that from that moment they weren’t able to change anything, whether they still hated the idea of having children or not.
