What does this tell us about the shows and their viewers?

You'd be hard-pressed to find a Netflix show or movie that doesn't have a Rotten Tomatoes rating. But can these ratings really be trusted? Or could it just be that some genres get more... sympathetic treatment from fans and critics?

Only 6 new Netflix shows have a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. Of these, 4 are anime, 1 is a K-drama and 1 is a German thriller:

1. Dear Child

This psychological thriller is creepy, tense and keeps you guessing from the start. When a young woman and a child land in hospital after a car accident, it's not clear who they are or where they've come from.

But soon questions are raised about their connection to the case of a missing child from 13 years ago. This show is really gripping and has a 100% critics and 85% viewers rating.

2. Daily Dose of Sunshine

Mental health awareness has never been higher. And this show destigmatises mental health issues in an engaging and emotional way. The K-drama follows Jung Da-eun, a third-year nurse who is transferred to the psychiatric ward from internal medicine.

She initially struggles to cope with some of the behaviours she encounters, but then begins to learn the ropes. The show focuses on her interactions with the patients to humanise them and show that they have real lives and personalities as well as an illness.

It scored 93% with the audience, validating the critics' rating.

3. Akuma Kun

The first anime on our list. Akuma Kun works with Mephisto III, a half-human, to investigate murders. Raised by a demon, Akuma Kun shows signs of autism - a fact that has led to the show being criticised for stereotyping.

Once you get past that, it's a fairly standard anime about the battle between good and evil. Judged as a show in its own right, the characterisation and plot are more positive than negative. But its 71% audience rating tells its own story. There's nothing groundbreaking about it, and you could argue that the 100% critics rating is misleading.

4. Blue Eye Samurai

Now, this is an anime that deserves its 100% rating. An audience score of 96% is not far from the critics' verdict - but you can't please all the people all the time.

The animation, characterisation and attention to detail in this show is an example of how good animation can be.

Set in 17th century Japan, it follows a young swordmaster, Mizu, who seeks revenge after being ostracised in the land she calls home.

5. Onimusha

Another anime set in the same period as Blue Eye Samurai (known as the Edo period). After years of war, the country is returning to peace, and Musashi Miyamoto sets out to rid Japan of demons.

There are some strong storylines, but not all of them reach the heights of Blue Eye Samurai. In the end, you're left wondering if its 83% audience rating is a reflection of the fact that it's based on the popular video game of the same name.

6. Pluto

A murder takes place in a world inhabited by robots and humans. But with robots incapable of killing humans and no trace of human activity at the crime scene, the investigators have a tough job on their hands.

If you ever thought that animated crime shows couldn't compete with live action, Pluto will change your mind. It's tense, emotional, thought-provoking and fully deserves its 94% audience rating.
