One Year Later, Eternals Doesn't Seem All That Bad Anymore
Eternals fans turn to Twitter to reopen discussion about the movie one year after its premiere.
The debates about whether Eternals is a good movie started right after its premiere one year ago and don't cease till now. The first anniversary of the Marvel Studios' movie revived the debate and made many MCU fans reconsider their position, social media show.
"Happy one year to the most underrated MCU movie ever made, The Eternals!!! They can never make me hate this movie," one fan wrote on Twitter to the agreement of some and disapproval of others.
Eternals is based on Marvel comic books created by the legendary comics writer Jack Kirby. The movie tells the story of ancient immortal aliens who were sent to Earth to defeat the Deviants thousands of years ago and have been living here separated and hidden among humans ever since. With the resurgence of the Deviants, the Eternals have to team up again to face the threat united and find out a shocking truth about themselves.
Wild Tom Cruise Deepfake Proves He'd Look Extra Creepy as Iron Man
The comics canon, director (Oscar-winning Chloé Zhao), and an A-list cast of the movie set high expectations for Eternals. Unfortunately, not all expectations of the MCU fans were fulfilled. Though the film was praised for its visual effects, cast, and inclusivity (it features the MCU's first openly gay superhero, Phatos, and the first deaf superhero, Makkari), many viewers were not satisfied by the writing, the excessive duration, and weak characters' development.
Besides, Eternals has become the lowest-ranking Marvel project on Rotten Tomatoes and the second-lowest-grossing film of the MCU. All in all, many called it the worst Marvel film ever. But it seems to be true for only part of the audience. One year after the movie's release, viewers are reconsidering their first impression of the movie.
Biggest Infinity War Mistake Marvel Fans Still Can't Get Over
"I've rewatched it since and not sure what the problem was before. It's really good! It very much works as an Eternals movie," one fan wrote and this sentiment seems to be shared.
One year later, the movie doesn't seem that horrible. Fans explain the failure of Eternals by bad timing.
At the time of the movie's premiere, the majority of Marvel viewers still had Infinity Saga withdrawal symptoms. No one had the energy for the new big blockbuster so different from the Avengers. This definitely could add up to Eternals flaws and result in a box office disappointment.
