One Time Harry Potter's Weasleys Did the Dumbest Thing Ever
The Weasleys have always been known as a poor family, which makes their trip to Egypt in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban one stupid move.
As one Instagram user has pointed out, the Weasleys' financial situation is basically a problem of their own making.
This pureblood family has been struggling to make ends meet for years – seven kids do take a toll on the budget.
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the Weasleys go to their Gringotts vault to take out their savings and spend the money on things for the next school year.
They have only one Galleon and a few Sickles in the vault. Some books alone can cost up to 10 Galleons, mind you.
Anyway, the Weasleys somehow manage to get everything they need cheaper (like second-hand books). Plus, Harry gives Ginny the books that Lockhart has gifted him after dragging him to an impromptu photo shoot for the Daily Prophet, so that's a big help on its own.
Still, the Weasleys' vault should be empty after shopping for the school year.
Yet, when the Ministry finds out about the enchanted car after Harry and Ron make their grand entrance to Hogwarts, Arthur is fined 50 Galleons for bewitching the car.
That happens somewhere halfway through the year, but how can he afford it?
Arthur couldn't have made that much money to pay the fine and provide for the whole family at the same time. We know that conjuring food is not possible, but duplicating it is. What if the same law applies to money?
When the Golden Trio are in Bellatrix's vault, they learn that valuable objects can be multiplied as a preventive mechanism against thieves.
We're not saying that Arthur Weasley has multiplied his money, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Later on, in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Arthur wins the Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw and receives 700 Galleons.
Now the family has the money to not worry about the next school year, groceries, or other necessities. What do the Weasleys do though? They simply spend it all on a summer trip to Egypt to visit Bill (*facepalm*).
We love the red-headed sweethearts as much as the next person, but that is the dumbest move in all of Harry Potter. Yes, that includes any and every time Harry is oblivious to obvious things happening around him.
