One Time Harry and Hermione Were Sh*tty Friends to Ron, but It Did Him a Favor
Who doesn't want to have the kind of friendship that the Golden Trio has? Well, they weren't always perfect!
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Ron finally gets to try his hand at Quidditch and is fairly (more or less) appointed Keeper of Gryffindor's team.
Success in Quidditch doesn't come easily to him, and it takes him a few months to become the star player he always was.
Harry and Hermione are pretty supportive of Ron even when he sucks (because he just feels too insecure), but they aren't there for his big moment – they totally miss the final Quidditch match where Ron shines. What good friends they are!
Sure, it's not exactly their fault that Hagrid chose the most inconvenient time to show them his big secret, but still, imagine how Ron felt when he didn't see his best friends cheering him on… That's a sad thought we didn't need today.
If you look at it from another angle, Harry and Hermione not being there turned out to be a good thing for Ron.
Maybe he was that nervous during the previous games because Harry, who has a natural gift for Quidditch, and Hermione, who is the girl Ron deep down wants to impress, were watching him?
Ron might have been upset for a minute when he didn't see them up in the stands, but then he might have actually relaxed enough to play way better.
Harry and Hermione's absence from the match could be the reason why Ron turned the meaning of "Weasley is our king" upside down a year later. That's a much nicer sentiment, right?
Anyway, we're glad that Ron has eventually learned to trust himself and believe in his abilities (Quidditch or no Quidditch), but it still would've been nice for his best friends to see him succeed on his own.
Well, they finally got their chance a year later during the now-famous Quidditch game when Ron thought he was under the effects of the Luck Potion.
By the way, that was one of the rare moments in the Harry Potter saga when Harry was an absolute genius!
