One Thing That Makes Law & Order SVU Impossible To Watch Without Getting Annoyed
Olivia Benson is guilty once again.
It's easy to understand why so many people can't stop watching procedural dramas like Law & Order, even when the quality of the scripts goes downhill. Viewers become addicted to the adrenaline rush of each case, and giving it up may be even harder than giving up drinking or smoking.
However, the inability to stop watching certain shows doesn't mean that viewers don't notice obvious flaws, especially those that are so present in the episodes that they become a constant part of the show.
The entire Law & Order franchise is guilty of this, but Special Victims Unit takes the lead: everyone is too self-righteous for their own good.
It's no secret that the main reason for many viewers' disenchantment with the show was that its main character, Olivia Benson, became more and more annoyingly stubborn with each passing season.
Despite being an extremely talented detective, she could spend a lot more time on her soft skills, starting with getting out of her own head and rethinking her decisions from time to time.
It wouldn't be so bad if it was just Olivia Benson. Of course, with her as the main character, it would be hard to keep brushing off her entitlement, but with the right team to balance her out, it would at least be interesting to watch.
Right now, all the fans are noticing is that pretty much every detective seems to be so self-righteous that they never even apologize for their mistakes.
Unfortunately, this is still a very realistic portrayal of the system in real life. While some fans are disappointed to see so little compassion and character development in this area, others feel it's better for the show to keep it that way. Right or wrong, Special Victims Unit has always been praised for its very realistic but careful portrayal of working with sensitive cases.
If you are not ready to say goodbye to SVU, no matter how hard it is to watch at times, we have good news for you: the show will return for its 25th season. Until then, keep an eye out for news and behind-the-scenes updates.
