The Night Court was a popular American sitcom that aired from 1984 to 1992 and followed Judge Harold T. Stone as he presided over the night shift of Manhattan Municipal Court. The series saw some unbelievable, crazy cases presented to Judge Stone, along with the shenanigans of his eccentric staff and the hilarious legal practices of the Judge himself.

Now, just over 30 years later court is back in session, but this time it follows Judge Stone's daughter, Abby Stone who has taken after her father and presides over the night court, solving cases and trying desperately to bring about a sense of order amongst the chaos. The revival has so far proven to be a massive hit, having earned the highest ratings a comedy on NBC has had in years and has already been renewed for a second season.

So what makes it so special?

Fans are comparing it to the iconic The Big Bang Theory, and pointing out one thing that Night Court does that brings in excitement and comedic value, something that was never a focus on The Big Bang Theory. Melissa Rauch stars in both series, but she has far more memorable interactions in the Night Court, which is part of what makes the series so quirky and popular.

The Big Bang Theory featured a set cast featuring 5 characters that eventually grew to 7, and although the series was still interesting and funny, many fans felt that the storylines were limiting as the majority of plots involved mostly the main characters.

At times this felt claustrophobic, all the drama, mishaps, and romances happened within the group's circle, with a few exceptions.

Night Court, however, introduces new characters and has guest appearances throughout, which gives room for comedic new storylines that can go in any direction and interesting new faces to shake things up for viewers.

Many of the characters and their cases that have appeared so far have been eccentric and unique, which has been praised by viewers who hope to see many more new faces as the series progresses.

Although The Big Bang Theory was undeniably a huge success without following the same direction taken by Night Court, fans still wonder what it could have been like had TBBT introduced more guest stars during its time on air. Night Court viewers can rest assured that many more silly, wacky characters are set to appear in front of Judge Abby Stone, and they won't be disappointed.
