It’s time to come back home.

Summary:

  • General Hospital is an ABC soap opera that just celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2023.
  • Lucky Spencer, previously portrayed by Jonathan Jackson, was written out of the show in 2015.
  • However, fans want to see Lucky back in Port Charles, even if it means recasting the actor.

If there's one thing that makes soap operas drastically different from normal dramas, it's the number of times a character can be recast. Not only does this work in favor of the longevity of the show, but it also allows for the correction of miscastings.

However, as fans of General Hospital know firsthand, sometimes the practice of recasting becomes too much and completely ruins once-admired characters. It's hard to get used to someone you've watched for a long time having a completely new face, voice, and expression.

Though the show has willingly gone through a number of changes in the past, some fans feel that more often than not, the recasts are unnecessary and detract from the narrative. And the ones who really need to be recast and brought back to Port Charles for more adventures are left unattended.

General Hospital’s Lucky Spencer Recast

The last time we saw Lucky Spencer was back in 2015, when he played a role in Luke Spencer's exit. Since then, his fans have been patiently waiting for him to return, as the character had so much more potential to offer.

Now that people are getting more and more tired of the current long running storylines and are looking for a change, Lucky's comeback would have come in very handy and would have made a lot of sense. And there doesn't seem to be any reason why he can't be brought back..

Perfectly portrayed by Jonathan Jackson, Lucky was definitely beloved by the audience, and the recast could hurt his perception. Though the actor revealed in 2021 that he was open to a comeback, it still hasn't happened three years later, so there could have been a change of heart or career plans.

But that shouldn't be a reason for General Hospital's creative team to hold their own characters captive. If they're afraid of the backlash that might come with a recast, that doesn't mean they shouldn't do it at all. It means that the recasting needs to be done right.

After missing so many important events like the death of his brother Nikolas, his resurrection, his sister's coma, his father's and aunt's funerals, Lucky has a lot of explaining to do. Was he really so caught up in his work that he couldn't find a way to visit his family, who had been shaken by so much tragedy? Or was something else holding him back?

With almost a decade without Lucky in Port Charles, there are many storylines the show could have gotten out of his character if only the writers weren't too afraid to shake things up. However, knowing how soap usually goes, the chances of seeing him back with some twisted mystery are still there.

Make sure to tune in to new General Hospital episodes Monday through Friday on ABC. Keep an eye out to not miss any more news or behind-the-scenes updates.
