In the first season of the adaptation, there was not even a hint about who Luffy's father and mother were. But in the anime, part of this mystery has already been revealed.

The following contains spoilers for Netflix ’s adaptation of One Piece.

One Piece burst onto the Netflix and has been collecting rave reviews since day one. More or less it made everyone happy – fans note the accurate transferring of the universe into the live-action, ordinary viewers enjoy the bright characters, the unique world and the whirlwind action, and critics say that this is one of the most successful anime adaptations in history.

It seems that Netflix has found the Gold Roger treasure.

Like the original anime, the adaptation keeps viewers guessing. We already know who Nami was in secret contact with and that Garp is Luffy's grandfather. However, one question remains unanswered – who are the parents of the Straw Hat Captain?

Many speculated that Luffy was the son of Gold Roger, the former Pirate King, but since this was never proven, his parentage remained a mystery. Luffy was raised by his grandfather, Monkey D. Garp, and has never seen his father. But in the end, anime and manga fans got to know this man.

Monkey D. Dragon is son of Garp and father of Luffy. He is known as the "World's Worst Criminal" and is the supreme commander of the Revolutionary Army. His goal is to overthrow the current World Government and end the oppression it imposes on ordinary citizens.

Although he has not yet introduced himself to Luffy personally, Dragon approves of his son's actions. He prevented Smoker (who appeared in the post-credits scene of the adaptation) from capturing Luffy. This incident shows that he cares about Luffy's well-being, even though he was not involved in his upbringing.

And although we never saw Dragon in the first season, the appearance of Smokey indicates that the most notorious criminal of the One Piece universe will probably appear in the second season.

The father seems to be very proud of his son for causing a lot of trouble for the World Government, and looks forward to the day when they will meet face to face. His unusual habit of facing the East Blue (where he left Luffy) seems to mean that he misses his son.

As for Luffy's mother, there is still no word on who she is.
