Let's go back to the time when the Triwizard Tournament was the biggest problem Harry and his friends had.

The events of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire largely revolved around the Triwizard Tournament, with Harry ending up as the reluctant fourth contestant, facing off against much more experienced wizards from other schools.

Among his rivals were Hogwarts star Cedric Diggory, lovely Fleur Delacour of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and world Quidditch icon Viktor Krum.

The latter was probably one of the most intimidating contestants, with all his fame and generally menacing looks. However, a scene from the second task proved that not everything in Krum's life was as enviable and perfect as it seemed.

The goal of the second task was for each champion to save someone who was most important to them. Harry had to save his best friend Ron, Cedric had to rescue Cho Chang, and Fleur had to help her younger sister. Krum was the only one who had to save someone he basically just met, Hermione Granger.

The fact that Viktor seemed to have no one more important in his life than her led many fans to believe that his private life was probably much duller than one would imagine.

"I suspect that she [Hermione] was one of the few people in his life who actually saw him as a person instead of a celebrity," Redditor shaodyn said.

While some fans felt sorry for Viktor for having so few friends, one Redditor came up with a conspiracy that could totally work.

"I've always thought the point of the Yule Ball was for the judges to pick people to be the Champions hostages from who they brought as dates.

But then they saw how badly Harry and Fleurs dates went and realised they had to pick someone else. I imagine Dumbledore suggested Ron and Maxime suggested Gabrielle," Redditor geek_of_nature suggested.

After all these years, Harry Potter fans are finally beginning to peel back the layers of Viktor Krum's character, ready to read into the few scenes he had in Goblet of Fire and ponder something that has never received enough attention. What other secrets can be revealed about the mysterious Durmstrang champion?
