One Euphoria Storyline the Writers Should Have Stuck To But Didn't
Seriously, why would they simply ditch it like that?
Euphoria has received plenty of criticism for dismissing several important storylines in season 2, but there is one arc that fans simply can't let go of.
The show's creator Sam Levinson appears to have just abandoned the storyline of Chris McKay — the character who actually got sexually assaulted in season 1, but never received any kind of closure about that.
According to fans, the way Euphoria dropped his story was "just weird". With McKay never returning to the spotlight in season 2, Levinson could have at least bother to try and come up with a believable explanation as to why the character is no longer being explored.
Many people were actually interested in McKay and how his arc would have developed, so the way Euphoria just brushed him off ruined the show for them.
The notorious assault happened in episode 6 of the first season, when McKay and Cassie try to get intimate during one of the multiple Halloween parties. When they are both naked, suddenly a group of masked men storms into the dorm and pin him to the ground, screaming "McGay!" at him.
The show has never explicitly showed him being sexually assaulted, but he most likely was, and it surely was a traumatic experience for him.
However, McKay, who was portrayed by Algee Smith, was simply brushed under the rug in season 2, with fans who waited for his story to develop receiving a big frustration instead.
It's unclear why exactly his character was removed from the spotlight, with Smith himself apparently being kept in the dark as to McKay's future. He told Daily Beast that he is "not even really sure" about where his character is going, and noted that the question should be addressed to Sam Levinson — who remained mum about McKay's storyline as well.
Euphoria has been greenlit for season 3, with the shooting set to start soon. As of now, it's unclear whether McKay will be a part of the third chapter of the HBO teen drama.
