One Cliché Fans Got Really Tired Of Seeing in Every Single Marvel Movie/TV Show

In light of the failure of the latest Disney Plus series, Secret Invasion, fans went on Reddit to discuss the worst cliché MCU doesn't shy away from utilizing in almost every project — the "doomsday plot."

Well, we all love a good doomsday plot. The thrill, the suspense, the high stakes — it's what makes these stories so engaging. But when every single story revolves around a world-ending threat, it starts to lose its charm.

We all know that Gravik isn't going to wipe out humanity because, hey, we've got a whole lineup of upcoming Marvel projects. And let's be real, Scarlet Witch isn't going to obliterate the multiverse when there are dozens of future projects announced.

The problem with this overused plot device is that it makes the conflict feel repetitive and, unfortunately, a bit boring. Every villain seems to have the same grand plan — destroy the world, with little to no reason behind their destructive ambitions.

Imagine, instead, a more personal conflict. The original poster on Reddit gives a great example: picture Doctor Strange trying to stop Wanda from eliminating her alternate self and taking her place but with the story becoming more intimate, with the stakes feeling real, and the tension being palpable.

Or consider a scenario where Gravik's ambition is not world domination but a power struggle within his own kind. His goal is to eliminate Talos and other high-ranking Skrulls to ascend as the new leader.

The story would be more grounded, and the suspense of whether he will succeed keeps us hooked.

The point is, not every Marvel story needs to have world-altering stakes. It's okay to scale down the conflict.

Why did fans love the Marvel TV shows that aired on Netflix ( well, the majority of those)? The reason is simple: those series, including Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist, were simply more grounded.

Every villain of these shows had a concrete plan that didn't involve world domination and, what's even more important, personal motivation to deal with a hero.

There's hope that Marvel takes a break from the end-of-the-world cliché and gives us more diverse and personal narratives.
