One Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Character You'd Never Thought Fans Would Root For
There is always someone in every show that fans want to hate. But what if there's no need for that?
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a comedy that quickly captured the hearts of fans. Since its first season aired in 2017, the show has immediately become an icon and a true fan favorite.
And there's no secret to that, because everything about the show seems perfect.
Starting with the plot of how a deeply devoted housewife becomes a world-famous comedienne, to the many small but essential details like the amazing cast, interesting side stories, and even the fashion style of the characters.
Well, everything deserves the love it gets.
Almost all the characters bring great feelings to the fans, but as always, there are exceptions. For example, Sophie Lennon, the greatest comedienne who has had the hearts of the fans in her pocket for decades.
Sophie's character is very complex. At first we see her as an open-hearted, down-to-earth, funny lady "from next door".
But we soon discover that it was all a mask, and she was a prude in disguise.
Sophie and Midge's first meeting was very warm and no one could have imagined that things would go wrong so quickly.
But then Sophie invited her new friend over and Midge and all the fans realized how different her character is when she is not on stage.
A fat, funny housewife from Queens who was so close to her fans turned out to be a rather old-fashioned and upscale woman who only eats lemons and doesn't even know where the kitchen is in her huge house.
The scene at her house is not warm at all and gave the fans chills. Trying to give Midge advice, she only gave her some sexist remarks and downgraded her comedy skills.
No wonder that Midge went ballistic and took Sophie down in her yet another angry stand-up in Gaslight.
But the strangest thing happened after that. The fans who hated Sophie so much actually started to feel sorry for her.
And even mentioned that Midge and Sophie were somehow similar in their pursuit of stardom.
The only difference, as we found out later, was that Midge actually liked what she was doing, and for Sophie, comedy was a torture born of enormous self-doubt.
But fans still appreciate how willing she was to be a part of Midge's life, even if her methods were questionable.
"I think Sophie felt some jealousy for Midge, being young and pretty and starting out, but that doesn't stop Sophie from giving Midge her big break. Sophie is still willing to share a stage with her, and there's nothing to suggest she wouldn't have continued to help, had Midge not gone on stage and sabotaged her," Redditor KickedoffShoes said.
Jane Lynch's portrayal of Sophie has been highly praised by fans. And now they are wondering if they will get more of this amazing yet complicated character in season 5.
New episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel airs on Prime Video on May 12.
