Though it still proves that something like this is pretty much feasible.

The modern TV system is definitely undergoing some major changes as it demonstrates that it’s no longer just the networks that decide fan-favorite shows’ fate, but the fans themselves also seem to be getting their right to have a voice.

Though so far the examples of some series that were brought back to the screen after official cancellation aren’t that numerous, the overall tendency is quite positive, and it seems like another popular show is about to get a second chance after a huge campaign started by its lovers from the other side of the screen.

Some fans of recently scrapped successful shows like NCIS: Hawai’i or So Help Me Todd may hold their breath here, but, to their great disappointment, the lucky series has nothing to do with CBS at all.

Netflix ’s highly demanded mystery teen drama show The Society just blew everyone away when its first (and last) season hit the streaming back in 2019, but as the COVID-19 pandemic approached and swept the whole world, the series was ditched despite all the raving reviews and impressive ratings.

According to The Society’s creator, Christopher Keyser, the show had no real reason to be scrapped this way except for the fact that the pandemic made everyone put all the work on halt and the whole uncertainty eventually led to the decision not to jeopardize The Society’s future at all.

Amidst the outraged fan reaction to the cancellation news that actually hasn’t really died down for five years now, Keyser revealed that he’d been flattered to see everyone’s love for the show which eventually led him to take The Society off the shelf and bring it all back while talking to Netflix executives.

As the creator later put it, he doesn’t know yet where The Society will go from here, and its entire future isn’t determined yet, but he’s still working on it which obviously doesn’t happen to “every show that gets canceled.”

What Is The Society About?

Starring Big Little Lies actress Kathryn Newton, The Society follows a group of teenagers whose pretty much ordinary field trip doesn’t go as planned and takes them to a different dimension where all the adults that used to live in their town have suddenly vanished.

Aware of the danger to face struggles due to limited resources, the characters thus have to come up with their own society rules to survive in a partially apocalyptic world.

The Society’s season 1 can be watched on Netflix.
