No matter how much you enjoy the romance, it wouldn't be half as compelling without a good dose of scandal mixed in. The scandal is what makes the romance spicy, and the anonymity is what raises the stakes.

That is why Bridgerton's universe could not exist without Lady Whistledown's scandal sheet and her devious ways of spreading the gossip. The secret of the columnist's identity was revealed to viewers a full year before it was revealed to a member of the Bridgerton family, Eloise.

And yet, many believe she shouldn't be the only one to know at this point. Her brother, Colin Bridgerton, although generally blind when it comes to Penelope Featherigton, must have had his suspicions as well.

How Does Colin Find Out About Lady Whistledown

In the original Julia Quinn novel, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which will serve as the basis for the upcoming third season of the Bridgerton TV series on Netflix, Colin finds out about Penelope's hobby by following her carriage to a secret location and reading the letter she leaves there.

The moment is dramatic and very important to the narrative, but knowing Shonda Rhimes and her willingness to structure events differently, many believe the show will portray the revelation of Whistledown to Colin in a different way as well. Perhaps Colin will actually show that he wasn't blind to everything the whole time and put the pieces together.

First of all, he's the only person who knows Penelope's writing style best. While Eloise may have been Penelope's best friend, the way they choose words for conversation and letter are different. Colin, who's exchanged letters with Penelope throughout his travels, is sure to recognize the way she reports all the news from London.

He also knows how she loves to share gossip or tease someone (deservedly) with a pun. In a scene from season 1 episode 4, he even points out one of Penelope's particularly stingy comments, looking very impressed by her wit. Surely he would find a similar connection in what Lady Whistledown prints on her sheet.

Whether Colin already has his suspicions, or whether he's just as oblivious to Penelope's little hobby as he is to her feelings for him, we'll have to wait and find out in Bridgerton season 3. It will premiere in two parts on May 16 and June 13, 2024. Stay tuned for more news and updates!
