It’s only been a week since its release, and this series is already taking over the world.

If you love good ol’ horror and dark humor, you have to check out this new Amazon Prime show. You won’t be disappointed, promise!

Of course, we are talking about the latest hit series The Horror of Dolores Roach. Based on the podcast of the same name, the show follows Dolores Roach, played by Justina Machado, who has just finished serving 16 years in prison for a crime she didn’t commit, just trying to survive.

Dolores finds herself back in her old Washington Heights neighborhood, but it has gotten gentrified since she was last there. The only place she recognizes is her old acquaintance Luis’ empanada shop. OK, we’ll stop with the recap here, otherwise, we might spoil something for you. Here is a trailer for you instead.

The Horror of Dolores Roach is initially a modern retelling of the 1979 musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, but it is also much more than that. The series has everything you might want – mystery and suspense, black comedy at its finest, and unexpected plot twists.

The show has received positive reviews from critics and praise from general audiences, with everyone now hoping for season 2.

Amazon Prime hasn’t renewed The Horror of Dolores Roach for another season yet, but there’s no need to panic – they are probably taking their sweet time, just like they did with Good Omens, which got a season 2 pickup two years after the initial release and the actual season 2 in another two years (which comes out on July 28).

If you still need any more convincing to watch this masterpiece, we have two words for you: Justina Machado. This woman never picks a bad project, and she is always hilarious. She has even brought her signature spark to the horror series.

Season 1 consists of only eight episodes. We are not saying “time for a binge-watch,” but we kind of are.
