Olivia Cooke Embraces the Targaryen Chaos Revealing Her Favorite HoTD Ship
She isn’t too far from the truth.
One thing everyone must be prepared for when it comes to the Targaryens and their family is that the customs are unconventional, to say the least. Fearing for their special abilities to bond with dragons and keeping the Iron Throne strictly within the family, Targaryen marriages have mostly occurred between close blood relatives.
Thus, Aegon II is now married to his sister Helaena, and Jacaerys and Lucerys Velaryon were both betrothed to their cousins Baela and Rhaena Targaryen. Rhaenyra and Daemon top the list of the strangest yet most powerful Targaryen marriages in the series to date. But when it comes to Targaryen love, the sky's the limit. And the show's cast knows it best.
Olivia Cooke ’s House of the Dragon Ship
House of the Dragon has been a runaway success since the premiere of its very first episode. Though some viewers were cautious about putting too much hope in the Game of Thrones prequel spinoff, the show has exceeded fans' expectations and was almost immediately renewed for a second season.
Now that season 2, which premieres on June 16, is closer than ever, viewers are going crazy with all the theories and questions they have for the cast and crew. This season, two branches of the Targaryens will finally meet on the battlefield to decide who will rule Westeros once and for all.
While celebrating the season premiere, however, the cast made sure there is a place for love in the upcoming episodes. When asked about her favorite characters from the series, Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower on the show, quickly came up with the pairing no one was expecting. The actress mentioned the aunt and niece duo of Rhaenys and Rhaenyra Targaryen.
Of course, it wasn't a serious revelation, but rather a joke about the Targaryen family tree, but the irony is that the actress wasn't too far from the truth. Considering that Rhaenyra ended up with her uncle in season 1, there is nothing stopping the writers from coming up with another similar pairing later on.
If you are interested in seeing where House of the Dragon will take its characters in season 2, be sure to tune in to HBO on June 16 to be the first to catch the premiere. Until then, you can freshen up your memories of season 1 by streaming it on Max.
