‘Old Sheldon’ Sequel Already Has a Jim Parsons-Approved Lead Ready
The Sheldon arc needs to come full circle.
Summary:
- Ever since Young Sheldon was released in 2017, fans of The Big Bang Theory have been joking about an ‘Old Sheldon’ sequel.
- The fandom went so far as to find the perfect Sheldon in Michael Keaton.
- Although Jim Parsons has approved of this casting, he is doubtful that the sequel will ever happen.
Unfortunately, there aren't that many TV shows that viewers would want to see more of. While there are some pretty interesting worlds and setups, most of them are only good for one storyline at a time. However, when a popular and much-loved series gets a spinoff, fans don't let go.
That's what happened with The Big Bang Theory, whose universe is so simple, yet so relatable to so many viewers around the world, that after 3 greenlit and confirmed spinoffs, they continue to beg for more. And even though the ‘Old Sheldon’ spinoff seems almost impossible right now, Jim Parsons doesn't mind playing along.
Will There be Another The Big Bang Theory Spinoff?
Although many doubted the chances of Young Sheldon when it was first released, the prequel to The Big Bang Theory quickly proved to be a success. The story of the Cooper family's survival in 90's Texas not only charmed all existing fans, but also managed to attract new ones.
However, the prequel story hasn't satisfied viewers' urge to find out what happens next to the show's main characters. Who will stay together? Who will end up separated? How many children will Amy and Sheldon have? These questions could have been answered by another spinoff, an ‘Old Sheldon’, bringing the story full circle.
The fandom went so far as to find the perfect actor to portray Sheldon in his golden years, and that is none other than Batman 's Michael Keaton. As it turns out, even Jim Parsons himself is very much on board with the choice. During a visit to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actor gave his official approval.
“Let me tell you this: I doubt that’s going to happen. But I would be so excited to have Michael Keaton added to the lineage of Sheldon portrayers. I would be amazed,” Parsons said.
Now it's up to either CBS or HBO's streaming service Max to make a move and claim ownership of the show. For now, there are 3 Big Bang Theory spinoffs that have been confirmed: Young Sheldon, which will end this May, Georgie and Mandy, which will replace it, and a secret one from Max.
Although there's nothing that would indicate that the 'Old Sheldon' story is coming to the viewers' screens, it can still change. So keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates to be the first to know. Until then, tune in to CBS every Thursday to catch Young Sheldon's grand finale.
