Nicola Coughlan Spoiled Bridgerton's Biggest Twist in the Very First Episode
It was all on the surface, yet we failed to see it!
The Bridgerton series hit the world differently. It was like a breath of fresh air from the Regency era that we all desperately need in today's world.
With all these naive stories about how love begins with courtship and how mothers decide their daughter's future, to the point where the Queen herself decides who gets married this year.
Yes, that's a world we no longer have – for better or worse.
But one thing remains the same: the gossip about those who have money and power. And the person responsible for this in the Bridgerton era is the one and only Lady Whistledown.
The anonymous columnist who writes about the flaws and hidden secrets of every citizen.
Quiz: Which Bridgerton Heroine Are You?
At the end of season 1, Lady Whistledown is no longer anonymous. It was revealed that the youngest daughter of the Featherington family is the one who gathers the gossip of the town and then cruelly reveals it in her column.
Miss Penelope Featherington being Lady Whistledown made sense to the most observant fans. Especially when Marina's secret pregnancy was revealed on the same day that she admitted to Pen that she might be interested in Colin (who is apparently Penelope's crush).
Eloise-Centric Season 4 Will Be Bridgerton's Dumbest Mistake
But there was something else in the first episode of the show that hinted at the personality of Lady Whisteldown.
The actress that played Penelope, Nicola Coughlan, in a now deleted tweet, revealed a major easter egg you probably didn't notice in the show.
She said, "When I filmed Penelope's first scene I chose a prop, a massive massive feather that looked a lot like..."...
Of course! The giant yellow feather that Penelope wore in her hair was a reference to the quill that Lady Whistledown uses to write her gossip column! Now it all makes sense...
And if not, you can spend the rest of the day binge-watching the show again.
